Taylor Jazz, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
This has been a wild and beautiful journey of ten years. It’s hard to put into words how pivotal each year has been and how much I’ve changed since then. I went from being a manager at MAC Cosmetics & Sephora for seven years to being one of the most sought after makeup artists in all of Southern California. I was forced to make the jump after being fired from MAC Cosmetics. I decided to make the transition into entrepreneurship which was honestly scary as fuck, but I trusted my gut and went for it.
If I could attribute one thing to my success it would be NETWORKING, NETWORKING, NETWORKING. I found a way to transition my professional partying skills into becoming a professional networker that could easily become anyone’s best friend. I was strategic with who I surrounded myself with and became conscious that there was a world of opportunity that existed. I started traveling the world, nurturing my connections and experienced such a powerful mindset shift that BLASTED my career.
Trust me, this whole process wasn’t a cakewalk. I had to deal with a ton of rejection & wasn’t getting paid my worth. I was working every job I could, taking clients from Orange County to Los Angeles building a name for myself. It was two years ago where I finally felt like everything was coming together. I started landing A-list celebrities & clients, thanks to my dedication, hard work ethic, & trusting my inner voice that I could crush my dreams. It’s only the beginning!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No way, not even close! I was devastated when I lost my dream job at MAC Cosmetics. I flew too close to the sun by having TOO much fun and neglecting my responsibilities at work. At this point, it was sink or swim and not getting a paycheck every week was a big change. I knew that I had to step up and gain control over my life and my career. It was time to get serious and fully step into the boss bitch that I always knew that I was meant to be.
I had to sacrifice a lot in the beginning of my freelance career. It was scary not knowing how much work you would have coming in or when you would be paid. Thankfully, I had an amazing support system at home from my boyfriend Kevin who consistently believed in me.
Please tell us about Makeup By Taylor Jazz.
My life and my business go hand-in-hand. My passions are beauty and making people feel good by enhancing their features with hair and makeup. I’m an incredibly versatile artist that has worked on thousands of Playboy & Maxim photo shoots, commercials, weddings, fitness competitions, editorials, and special events. I absolutely love my work and take pride in the amazing relationships that I form with my clients.
MY SERVICES REPRESENT THE EPITOME OF GLAM. No doubt, my clients walk away feeling gorgeous and confident that they look their very best. I’m extremely hands-on whenever I’m on set and pay close attention to detail. You could call me a perfectionist, but it’s important to me that my clients always look and feel 110% best.
I am most proud of how quickly the hard work paid off and the business grew. I love the recognition I receive from my peers. I am proud of the work relationships that have turned into friendships and the friendships that grew into work relationships. I went from doing makeup at a small makeup stand in the mall ten years ago to working with some of the top creatives in L.A. I’m so proud of that.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing! Everything I’ve done has contributed today to my growth and success. I love all of the lessons I’ve learned along the way, and I’m a true believer that everything happens for a reason. There’s no such thing as a “bad mistake” because these are all monumental learning experiences.
